Okay, so it’s April. We’re four months into 2017 and I guess a lot of you are thinking, you’re a bit late to the goal setting bandwagon. What can I say, better late than never? Due to some complications I have only been able to really start my blog this month (April). So I’ve decided to set some goals for my blog, following the next eight months of the year.
As some of you may know I’ve actually been blogging for a long time. First as simplyyliving and a few years later auriolusvita was born. After that I created pinkkchatter, followed by mascarandmisfits and here we are today as miflare. However, I like to think of this blog as the start. This is me doing something I love and working tirelessly. Investing my time into this creative outlet. I have such a long way to go and so much to learn, and I couldn’t be more excited!
2017 Blogging Goals
“A dream without a goal is a wish, a goal without a plan is just a dream.”
1. Stay Consistent with Posting
This is definitely something that I have struggled with in the past. One of my main goals for my blog this year is for it to be consistently updated. I’m on school holidays right now so I do have the time but during the school year things get very hectic. What I want to work towards this year is finding a doable schedule for myself to ensure new content goes up on my blog as often as it can.
The best way for me to achieve this is to start small, when the term starts back I’ll be aiming for one post a week, minimum. If that’s achievable then I’ll up it to two and so on and so fourth. Once I find a schedule I can comfortably achieve without jeopardising my grades, I’ll stick to it.
2. Reach 1000 users per week
Don’t get me wrong I’m still working through understanding google analytics. By my very basic understanding a user shows you the total number of times your site has been viewed by an individual in the given time period. This however does not include repeat visitors. If you want to learn more about the basics of google analytics, I found an amazing blog that goes through it in a way that’s easy to understand // here.
As of today, April 19th, from the past week (9th – 15th) I had 33 users visit my site. By the end of the year I aim to have 1000 users visit my site each week. I know this is ambitious as it is a ridiculous increase in traffic. However, I’ve been told to set my sites high so here they are.
In order to achieve this one I will 100% need to be posting consistently. I will also be as active as possible on all other social media channels to try and drive traffic to my blog. This one will take some work, but I’m totally up for the challenge.
3. Hit 10,000 followers on Instagram
Personally I find instagram to be my favourite social media channel simply because it is almost a form of blogging on it’s own. I love being able to share beautifully crafted photos and fun stories with you all. 10,000 is a hell of a big number and just typing it out is starting to scare me. I have heard of accounts who have skyrocketed their growth in just a few months and by staying active I hope to do the same.
Currently, I have 158 Instagram followers and even though there are accounts growing by 1000s of followers per day, getting off the ground is not going to be easy, nor should it be. I want to work at growing an organic following of like-minded people within my instagram account.
4. Create Real Connections with Readers
A lot of why I started blogging comes from wanting to create a community of like-minded people. One of my long-term goals and something I intend to work towards for the remainder of this year is building real connections with my readers.
I want this platform to be a genuine extension of myself, my thoughts, my opinions and my beliefs. As readers you don’t have to agree, in fact sparking up a lively debate is always something I’m up for! I will be sure to always read and reply to my comments as well as try and create blog posts that help you all. Whether that be in fashion, beauty or just life in general.
5. Find my Voice as a Blogger
If you’ve ever read any posts about starting a blog, or what you need to start a ‘successful blog,’ they all talk about finding your voice. A big part of blogging is the writing. Possessing the ability to express yourself through the individual voice used in each and every blog post. Now I know a lot of you might think this is a little stupid and possibly slightly pedantic; but I assure you finding a voice is an imperative part of being a blogger.
I’m still really new to blogging on the whole (I’ve run inactive blogs for years but it’s never lasted more than a couple months). Which basically means I haven’t quite found my voice, my writing style to be precise. By the end of the year I would love to have an identifiable writing style that I am proud of.
6. Never Compromise
When I say, ‘never compromise,’ what I mean is don’t just post because I have too. Don’t just post because I will gain from it. I want each and every post on this blog to be something that I’m proud of. Even if the post is a day late, I would rather that than something I haven’t put 110% into.
I think one underlying quality that I’ve found in blogs that keep me coming back is a consistency of not only content but quality. Nothing is just thrown together, the photography and the writing are all maintained at a high standard. This is something that I also hope to retain, always publishing blog posts that I am proud of.
Now I don’t want this to feel like a numbers game. The reason why I started blogging so many years ago as simplyyliving was because even back then I wanted to share my thoughts with you all. I wanted a place to truly be myself. While I do have ambitions to grow an audience, for anyone to read my work means the world to me. This blog is my creative outlet and something that I love, if you want to read more about me, you can // here.
I have decided to write my goals and publish them here as a way to reflect and inspire. My intention for this post to ensure that I work towards my goals, and to offer me the motivation to do so. It is also a great way to reflect at the end of the year and see just how far I have come.
I hope this post offers you some inspiration when it comes to goal setting and aiming high. It’s easy to look at people who have already achieved so much and feel as if you have no chance. But you have to remember they all had to start somewhere and the best way to get to where you want to go is through setting goals. Making plans and always working. This is only the start of my journey as a blogger.
